The 8th Taipei City Annual Indigenous Language Word Contest
Your participation is welcome
Indigenous People Commission of Taipei City Government has announced the launch of the 8th Taipei City Annual Indigenous Language Word Contest to promote and revitalize indigenous languages. The Contest will be hold at University of Taipei (Bo-Ai Campus) at 9:00 a.m. on March 18th, 2023 (Saturday). This contest aims to encourage contestants to learn ethnic language words and, through games, recognize and memorize them so that they can eventually enhance their abilities to listen, speak, read and write in ethnic languages in the natural manner and gain a better understanding and familiarity with the indigenous languages for language learning and inheritance.
The Contest is divided into Elementary School Group and Junior High School Group. Compared with other counties and cities, Taipei City does not have indigenous areas and thus lacks an environment for the gathering of homogenous ethnic groups. Hence, Indigenous People Commission of Taipei City Government offer generous prizes to encourage citizens’ participation. The first prize of each group will be NTD 30,000, the second prize will be NTD 20,000, and the third prize will be NTD10,000. It is expected that these high prizes can motivate participants to eagerly learn their indigenous language words and manifest exceptional results.
As many as eight strong teams from Amis, Paiwan, and Atayal participated in the Contest this year. In addition to competing for various awards in Elementary School Group and Junior High School Group, the top two winning teams in each group will also represent Taipei in National Finals this May. The Contest promises to be exciting. All guests and journalists are sincerely invited to attend this grand event.
